This week on the Canadian Sports Story, our focus shifts to the Olympic bid plebiscite in Calgary. Our guests include David King, the son of Frank King who spearheaded Calgary’s bid for the 1988 Olympics and also served as Cahir of the organizing committee for those Games, and Michelle Cameron-Coulter, an Olympic gold medalist and Calgarian who has been a supporter of Calgary 2026 from the outset. Michelle joins us to discuss the impact that the legacy of the 1988 Games has left on Calgary and also discusses how the city has become a hub and a home for national athletes representing Canada in several sports.
Our final guest this week Robert Livingstone who is a senior editor, award-nominated journalist and author, covering Olympic bid business as founder of GamesBids.com. He is a member of the Olympic Journalists Association and the International Society of Olympic Historians. Robert joined me to provide his perspective not only on Calgary’s potential bid for the 2026 Olympics but also provides updates on the other bids for 2026 and other cities waiting in the wings should all three current bids fall to the wayside.
